Academic Honesty and Academic Achievement among the Students of Science and Research branch of Islamic Azad University of Tehran, Iran

Abstract

In order to identify the relationship between academic honesty and academic achievement, an exploratory research with a correlational approach was conducted among the students of Science and Research branch of Islamic Azad University of Tehran, Iran. The sample included 364 students whom were selected using stratified random sampling. For gathering the data, a questionnaire, namely academic honesty questionnaire and the average of latest semester of students were exploited. The validity of the questionnaire was calculated with Cronbach’s alpha which was 84%. The data was analyzed using the SPSS software in two statistical levels, descriptive and inferential. In descriptive level the gathered information was presented as tables and diagrams of frequencies, means and standard deviations, as for the inferential level, Pearson Correlation and Independent T-test was conducted. The results showed that there is significant relation between academic honesty and academic achievement. in terms of academic honesty and academic achievement between male and female students, there is a significant relationship as well. Furthermore, exploring such factors as academic honesty and academic achievement between senior and junior students, no significant difference was found. Also, between the engineering faculty students and management faculty students there was a significant difference academic achievement wise and academic honesty wise.
