Evaluating the Performance of Shahid Beheshti University Based on the EFQM Excellence Model

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of Shahid Beheshti University based on the EFQM excellence model in order to specify the pertinence of this organization in the way of excellence. The study was a mixture of both qualitative and quantitative methods application wise and methodologically. The sample included 683 people from the university [including faculty members (123), staff (179), managers (6), and students (375)], and 200 employees of those organizations having connection with this university. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select the sample. The tools used for gathering data were interviews and 3 questionnaires developed by the researchers for faculty members, managers and staff, students, and society members. The validity of the tools was determined by professors and experts. The Cronbach Alpha of the questionnaires related to the faculty members, managers and staff, students and the society members calculated to be 0.98, 0.81 and 0.60, respectively. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation and percentage of frequency distribution) and inferential statistics (t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Freedman test,and EFQM direction) were used for analyzing quantitative data, and content analysis was used for analyzing interview’s data.The results revealed that the extent of applying EFQM model criteria at Shahid Beheshti University shows meaningful difference. Also, the results showed that the criterion of “society results” in Shahid Beheshti University did have the highest score and after that other criteria were: key performance results, policy & strategy, partnerships & resources, people results, leadership, processes, customer results, and people. In general, Shahid Beheshti University obtained 539.4 out of 1000 on EFQM model.
