Participation of faculty members in planning and decision making processes in university departments

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the extent of participation of faculty members in educational planning and decision making processes in different departments of Islamic Azad University situated in its 10th university zone in academic year 1387-88. A stratified random sample of 280 faculty members participated in the study. Data were collected by a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Results showed no difference between faculty members in terms of participation in educational planning and decision making in different departments. It was found that participation of faculty members in educational decision making had increasing effect on their sense of ownership. There was no difference among academics in terms of demographic variables. No difference was found in participation in planning and decision making in relation to areas of learning and research as well as cultural and administrative issues.
